Billboard Music Awards 2017

Description

The 2017 Billboard Music Awards, televised live on Sunday, May 21st from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, featured music’s hottest stars and a host of stellar performances. It was a special night filled with many surprises and spectacular special effects. Pyrotek was once again honored to have been part of this leading-edge production.

Nicki Minaj opened the show with a set that had social media buzzing.  She performed a guest-packed medley, including “No Frauds” with Lil Wayne, “Light My Body Up,” her song with David Guetta, “Swalla” with Jason Derulo, and “Regret in Your Tears.” Her dominatrix inspired costumes and hot choreography were complimented by dragon and five master flame effects.

Effects throughout the evening included dragon tails, tiki torches and custom flames for Camila Cabello, multi-colored balloons for Miley Cyrus, confetti for Imagine Dragons and red comets and silver gerbs for The Chainsmokers.

Drake not only broke a record with 13 awards but orchestrated one of the most original performances in Billboard history.

On a stage constructed in the middle of the iconic Bellagio fountains, Drake performed “Gyalchester” from his recent More Life playlist.   The set opened with large scale comets complimenting one of the most famous fountains in the world.  As the set continued, fountains swayed left and right with our XL flame units mirroring their choreography.  The song finale featured an incredible array of large-scale pyro, including comets, mines, crossettes and skybursts.  This was a first for the Billboards, the Bellagio and for us.

Lifetime Achievement honoree Cher recreated her classic “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time.”  This megastar was in original costume, much to the delight of her fans. Showers of iridescent confetti concluded her incredible performance.

Pyrotek was thrilled to have been part of this iconic annual event, which received high marks from both the industry and the media for another innovative production.
